The Sheffield branch of the Classical Association, a national body promoting the study of Classics and Ancient History, dates back to 1921, one of the oldest in the country. Until 1990 the branch was an integral part of civic life in Sheffield, closely connected to the former Sheffield University Departments of Ancient History and Classical Archaeology, Latin, and Greek, while remaining a very distinct institution run by and for the people of the city. Since 2010 a restored working committee of the Sheffield Classical Association provides continuity to this historic Sheffield institution with a regular programme of talks, walks and school days on all things ancient and classical!
