One of the reasons why we should fight for and contribute towards maintaining the Classical tradition in Sheffield Education is that it has been there for so long. Young scholars in Sheffield have been studying the Greeks and Romans for ever . . . See below (Re)discovered this morning in the Sheffield Archives-Musae Sheffieldienses!-somebody's rent book, with the first twenty pages full of Latin elegiacs, copied in beautiful copperplate handwriting. The other two clips from an old history of Sheffield, written in the form of a dialogue between 'ancient' citizens of the city give some information about the poets. At a time when Classical Education in state schools in Sheffield is in great danger (https://goo.gl/J9JfcJ), it's good to know that the city has always been a haunt of the Muses!
